The Ducati motorcycles are manufactured by the Italian company Ducati Motor Holding SpA. It was founded in 1926. The company started its activities with the production of various radio components. The impetus for its development as a motorcycle manufacturer was its collaboration with the SIATA company, which produced compact Cucciolo engines. In 1950, the first motorcycle with the Cucciolo power unit was launched under the brand Ducati; its maximum speed was 64 km/h.

One of the most prominent achievements of the company is the 750 SS bike, which appeared in 1974. Its main feature was a V-twin engine with desmodromic valves, which is still a signature of the manufacturer. This design reduces the risk of incomplete valve closure before the piston reaches the top dead centre. It helps to prevent valve overheating as well as premature ignition of the fuel-air mixture.
