Historical highlights of the brand

As early as in 1901, the founders of the company started to develop their first engine. It had compact dimensions, its displacement was only 116 cc, and it was intended for mounting on a bicycle frame. They began building the first bicycle equipped with such a power unit right in the backyard of one of their houses and continued working on it until 1903. Right after the release of this vehicle, they started to work at the first motorcycle of the brand. A larger 405 cc engine was installed on it. Their first factory was opened only in 1906.

Soon the company started to enter and develop foreign markets. For example, the Harley-Davidson motorcycles were available for sale in Japan as early as in 1912. The oldest continuously working dealership abroad was opened in 1918.

The factory custom bike building programme was launched in 1999. The company formed a division that improves the mass-produced Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The customized models feature more expensive trimming, more powerful engines, decorative elements made from ostrich leather and gold.
