Footrest motorcycle parts

Footrest for Top motorbike brands
Motorcycle footrests make it comfortable for the rider and passengers to get on the bike. Motorcycle stands support the bike when parked. Their service life isn’t limited.
Types of motorcycle footrests and stands
By the intended purpose, there are parts for:
- Side stands for parking. They are placed at the side of the bike, you can unfold them and secure the bike to prevent it from tilting. Most bikes have them as standard equipment. These parts are relatively inexpensive.
- Footpegs for getting on. They can be placed in front – for the rider and at the rear end – for passengers. They often have rubber pads. They can be:
- Adjustable. Their tilt can be adjusted before a ride. They are often used as equipment for sports bikes as they allow a racer to choose the most comfortable position.
- Non-adjustable. As a rule, street motorcycles are fitted with them. They can’t be adjusted.
- Centre stands for maintenance. They are placed in the centre of the bike. Most often they aren’t available as standard equipment. They allow lifting the rear wheel to make carrying out repairs easier. They are designed to support significant weights.
Depending on their material, motorcycle footrests can be divided into:
- Steel. They are available at a relatively low price. They look very stylish thanks to chrome coating.
- Titanium. Robust and durable.
- Made from anodized aluminium. They are lightweight and corrosion-resistant.
These components differ in shapes and sizes. They can be universal, i.e. designed for fitting onto different bikes, or model-specific. The latter ones are made for a particular make and model.
Malfunctions: their causes and symptoms
- Deformation. These parts can get bent or broken if a bike falls over. As a result, using them won’t be possible.
- Weak or broken retaining springs. In particular, that might be a result of careless actions of a rider while parking. In that case, the part doesn’t fit the chassis snugly enough when folded or can’t be secured in an unfolded position.
Tips on how to maintain and replace motorcycle footrests and stands
- It is not recommended to get on and off a bike if a side footrest isn’t set. This might result in falling over.
- You should use only the centre stand while maintaining a motorcycle chain, replacing the rear wheel and carrying out other repairs. It immobilizes the vehicle as securely as possible.
- If you’re going to park on an inclined surface, it is better to adjust the side stand. If it isn’t possible, it is better to leave your motorcycle on even ground.
- It is forbidden to get the bike off the centre stand if a side one is unfolded. This might result in a bike falling over and getting damaged.
- You should unfold the side stand only after the bike has come to a full stop.
