The Peugeot motorcycles have been manufactured by the same-name company established in 1898. Now, it is a joint property of the French automobile manufacturer PSA Group and Indian corporation Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. At present, they offer two- and three-wheel scooters. The production sites are located in France and Сhina.
Establishment of the brand
The prototype of the motorcycles was created as early as in 1898. It was equipped with a De Dion-Bouton engine placed in the rear part. The newly-designed vehicle was presented at the Paris motor show but had never been mass-produced. In 1901, a motorcycle with a 0.193 l, 1.5 hp engine was presented to the public. It entered mass production.
More than once, racers set different records riding the Peugeot motorcycles. For example, in 1913, the company made the sport model 500 M. It was the first bike equipped with two camshafts. Another feature of the novelty was that each engine cylinder was fitted with four valves. During the test drive, it demonstrated an unprecedented speed for its class – 122 kph.
The P515 motorcycle built in 1934 brought numerous world records to the racers. In particular, it covered the distance of 3,000 km at an average speed of 118 kph. Until the 1950s, the company was the leader among the French motorcycle manufacturers.
After 2015 when the brand became partially owned by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, they began to design the MGP3O sportbike. In 2017 the vehicle took part in the Moto 3 competition. From that time on, the company focused on the production of scooters.
In 2018, at the Paris Motor Show, the company presented two concept Peugeot P2X motorcycles - Cafe Racer and Roadster. They are made in a retro style but with the use of modern technologies like LED daytime running lights.
